Welcome to the Commune of Lapradelle-Puilaurens!
This once sleepy village now has more than a castle to visit. We are not talking about any old castle either! In some form it has sat on top of an impossible rocky ridge since the 10th century making it one of the most impressive Cathar Castles. It was reinforced after falling into the hands of the French Monarchy in the mid 13th century as it was in a strategic location being the most southerly castle in France.
Obviously Lapradelle wouldn’t be complete without a little art gallery and Galerie d’Art provides just that! As well as world photographs printed on canvas and plexi there are often exhibitions to be seen of local artists. It also provides printing and design services, technical drawing and photography.
Tucked away on the Rue des Tourterelles is a hidden gem, L’Atelier 25. This is where the incredible talent of Dominique Chouaba resides. The intricate detail of his renaissance style oil paintings is breathtaking and must be seen to be believed. Dominique’s paintings sell worldwide so prepare to be blown away. He also somehow finds the time to instruct new painters in his techniques and offers painting courses for those who wish to stay longer and benefit from his depth of experience.
L’Âme de SIX
In Puilaurens, just down the road and en route to the castle, a specialist knife producer, L’ Âme de SIX, with a lovely workshop/showroom. You’ll find him on the Route de la Boulzane, the first building as you enter Puilaurens, there is a large car park outside.
In Lapradelle you will also find a post office and an epicerie (open Tuesday – Sunday 7.30am – 12.30pm)
Who knows what will open in Lapradelle next!
