Art has had an interesting life.
The youngest of three children from a working class one-parent family he initially moved through an academic career rapidly. At the age of 17 he had been called to Oxford University with a view to read for a degree in physics. To his surprise the interviewers asked him if, instead of Physics, he would consider studying English, as they had loved his general papers so much! A bit taken aback he politely refused the offer.

An artistic streak ran through the family and so Art decided to pursue this instead. His first role found him working for a small company in West London where he developed a new branch to the business offering interior design. Ultimately there would be a queue of people waiting for his advice and the business tripled its turnover. One highlight was working with Viscount Linley’s company, the Queen’s nephew, on a project in Claridge’s, one of London’s most prestigious hotels.

Never standing still, Art moved on. He was offered a position working for one of the UK’s top design companies, Smallbone of Devizes. He was placed in their flagship showroom in Knightsbridge, in central London. The company has a dizzying client list including Madonna, Stella McCartney and Bernie Ecclestone, then one of the richest men in the UK. As senior designer Art flourished, but life moves on.

At the age of 48 Art left it all behind! He quit his job and sold everything that he owned to backpack around the world. This is when his interest in photography took off. His passion to capture each moment of his travels along with all its beauty and wonder is being shown here. In an effort to promote the rejuvenation of Lapradelle, a once thriving village, these images can only be purchased in person in this gallery.

Art has also written a book describing his adventures during his first year of travel. The second year’s adventures are currently being written down and Art has started work on his first novel.
